Stunning sights to be seen this afternoon and evening. A huge number of birds benefiting from fields being prepared and sewn with seed potatoes, Gulls, Wagtails, also Kestrels and Buzzards on the ground. The highlight though was a spectacular Starling murmuration over the fens, often passing low over me, which was a superb surprise as the highest number of birds I had noted in the area until now was around 300. Best birds around today- Wath Lane area Little Owl 2 Tawny Owl 1 Tree Sparrow 2 Aubourn area Sparrowhawk 1 Buzzard 4 Barn Owl 1 Little Owl 1 Kestrel 2 Jay 1 Skylark 8 Starling c1400 Fieldfare 85+ Song Thrush 2 Redwing 42+ Mistle Thrush 3 Pied Wagtail 24+ Meadow Pipit 14 Blackmoor Bridge Wigeon 200+ Gadwall 26 Teal 35+ Shoveler 9 Buzzard 4 up together Oystercatcher 2 Lapwing 79 Curlew 3 Snipe 3 Also Bassingham Fen Little Owl 1 Buzzard 2 Kestrel 2 Regards, Ben. |
