A lovely few hours on the new local patch today dominated by one species. After today I think 22 March should be known as Whooper day in Dunston

It started on this mornings walk when 28 flew over in glorious sunshine heading west before eventually turning and heading north-west at 10:18

Having then been out for most of the day an evening walk produced the spectacular sight of c.150 flying north over Fen Lane/Nocton Wood at 18:09 followed shortly afterwards by 78 flying North close to the village at 18:20.

Having not been around for most of the day I cannot help thinking how many others may have passed over the village during the day. Looking at some of the LBC Twitter reports today it would seem there has been a significant exodus of Whoopers across the county.

I have seen some fairly large flocks moving north through the Wash in spring over the years but never this many moving inland over a single location.

Two Chiffchaffs were the first of the year on the patch this morning while 16 Fieldfare were still hanging on.
