Nice one Geoff, you have reminded me to arrange our spring race at Far Ings as they are great fun to do.

Not quite as much at Manby today, but the Wood Sandpiper and a (probably) different Ruff were still present on the pool at the back. Also two Marsh Harriers.

Missed out on ML, CT, GC, SN, MR, H & GP.

I have no doubt that yesterday (Saturday) would have been the day for a bird race at Gib. With White-tailed Eagle, Rough-legged Buzzard, Red Kite and Firecrest to name but a few.
Pics of the White-tailed Eagle can be seen on the Gib blog....

Gutted that I missed this - I was not looking in the right direction! This is the second White-tailed Eagle that has flown over my head at Gib (in the last 5 years) that I've missed! Ah well can't get em all.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Richard, 95 species would have won the bird race, it appears that RSPB Frampton Marsh didn't enter this year or many other Lincs sites.
The list from the West Midlands sites were Belvide, Staffs and Upton Warren, Worcs tied with 91, Grimley, Worcs 88, Sandwell Valley, West Mids 85, Marsh Lane, Warks 82 and RSPB Middleton Lakes, Staffs/Warks 74.
I enjoyed my day at Manby Flashes and was pleased that the site has improved from previous years, 2013 49 species and 2014 44 species.

How do you get round to the pool at the back and the shed hide at manby?

Go into the field with the wind turbine, climb through the barb wire fence where it's plastic covered for safety then walk along rear of hedge until you reach the hide.
