The best birds at the south end this morning were 2 Turtle Doves, a Spotted Flycatcher, Cuckoo, Wheatear and Marsh Harrier. 82 Swallows flew north.

Do you think there is a general increase in turtle doves this year Steve?

There's no evidence yet of such, Colin, but it is still on the early side for Turtle Doves. Locally, last year was the poorest I have known for the species, and very few young birds were apparent on the autumn passage which covered only a very short period. It is all a far cry from the good passage flocks that we used to see regularly.

Yep, who could ever have guessed the turtle dove crashing like this. There have been a few sightings/images recently which just made me wonder (hope) they might be on the increase. Oh well, tally ho.
