A top quality wander around Chowder had something at every turn. A singing corn bunting caught my ear, I stopped to listen and confirm Id, movement made me look to my right and a wheatear was perched on an old farm implement, delicate peach on hardened rust. At last my wheatear walks bear fruit. I walk the raised bank and the darting bird flying low over the mud was a kingfisher...more colour amongst the earthy tones. A flock of 24 black tailed godwit pass west, whitethroat jerk into the air, sedge warblers fight for space and then, near the western Chowder bench, 3 wheatear, all together on a rock the size of my head, oh joy. I sit and take them in, a male and 2 females. They are alert, pulsing with nervous energy. Two little ringed plover pass by, the skylark sings. I sing
