The largely uneventful run continued on the dunes at the south end. 53 Swallows and 12 Common Swifts flew north and 3 Turtle Doves and a single Cuckoo were seen. A Gannet flew north at sea. It was heartening to see fledged Corn Buntings and Skylarks in and near the lucerne field by the dunes. This field which has grown the crop for many years and is used by 3-4 pairs of Corn Buntings and quite a few pairs of Skylarks has usually received its first cut around mid-May just ahead of the fledging dates of these two species.

A Kingfisher was a welcome sight at my garden pond this evening just after I fed the fish.
