Just returned from 10 days in sunny France and checked 20+ nest boxes in Market Rasen for the third time. It was apparent that the earlier broods of both Blue and Great Tits have fared far better than the later ones. Nearly all the young that were ringed when they were well feathered have fledged. Of the 6 outstanding boxes which contained a total of 54 naked young on June 2nd, only 5 were left! It's probably the worst year since I started checking these boxes in 1982.
