Friday. 19 June. 7.25am Dowsby Fen, near South Forty Foot. A single Bee Eater called as it crossed the fields westwards. At first sight, as it was rather overcast, colours were not clear but the pointed cigar shape and then luckily the call confirmed species. A little out of context when assisting with a fenland bird breeding survey!
I have (sound) recorded this species in France and Germany but this is my first in UK.

Great record for the Breeding Bird Survey. Does anyone know the BTO species code for Bee-eater?

In answer to my own question, it is apparently MZ. M for Merops I suppose and Z because they ran out of all the other letters?
