As an infrequent visitor to Gainsborough and a fan of urban wildlife I decided to spend an hour late afternoon on the 25th taking the public footpath alongside the predominately oak White's Wood which is flanked by a disused industrial site near The Otter pub.

I was able to add to Tom's sightings, Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker, Bullfinch, Coal Tit and singing Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, Song Thrush and Skylark.

On the rough grassland/low scrub were several spikes of Southern Marsh Orchid, Large Skipper, Meadow Browns and Speckled Woods, all completely undetected by the speeding traffic on the A631!

Cheers, Rob.

A nuthatch was trapped at Gib this morning - judged to be a juv female. The first June record for the Reserve (and only about the fifth ever). Other post-breeding juv dispersal of interest was a great spotted woodpecker and a treecreeper both trapped and ringed.
