Over my house this evening, was it a hobby or sparrowhawk. Did have pointed wings. Flew over with small bird in talon and a house martin chasing it and making a racket.

Likely Sparrowhawk Jon, though a Falcon shouldn’t be ruled out… Certainly it is beneficial to scribble down as much as you are able to discern immediately after the event; Impression of size, structure, colouration etc., not to subsequently confirm the id as such but to build on current understanding. Is worth keeping an eye out for as a Raptor maybe nesting nearby!

Best regards Jon,

Ben

Jon

I tend to favour the Hobby option!

On two counts. Firstly you mention the raptor had pointed wings which would favour a falcon rather than a hawk. Secondly it had predated a hirundine which is a speciality of Hobbies at this time of year.

Was parking car at the time so limited view. I put the hawk as possible because of size. Will keep my eyes peeled
