Post subject:  Before the rain.

With rain forcast for 11 ish and back at work tomorrow i decided to have a trawl round from first light.
Navenby straight produced two Barn Owls hunting the verges and another was seen along the Metheringham road.
There was a Common Buzzard at Wasps nest and a nice male Stonechat in the reed-mace on one of the ditches down Nocton fen.
Whilst looking at this bird i heard a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming in the woods at the top of Dunston fen.
Another Common Buzzard was also drifting about across the fen.
Numerous Little Egrets were about (no GWE seen) and a large flock of Fieldfares were in the hedges along the fen.
Stopping at the bottom of the fen to check the drainage channels there were more Little Egrets and a Kingfisher flashed up one of the drains.
I went onto Potterhanworth fen and saw another Buzzard and 8 Grey Partridge, a female Merlin skimmed the field and had a brief squabble with a Kestrel. I then saw the ringtail Hen Harrier, that has been in the area, flying towards the causeway.

A very enjoyable and worthwhile 3 hours.

Cheers,

Oliver.
