Marston STW - 04/01/2016 - 48 species in 2.5 hours.... Stumbled on Alex & Nargila Lees, who had just found a tristis chiff in the reedbed. I saw the bird on at least three occasions between 14.00 - 14:45hrs, and heard the contact call very well and clearly different from the collybita which was accompanying the bird. Further down the 'long' hedgerow (beyond the footpath and near the gap) were two more calling collybita. Alex got some decent images of the bird..... If you are interested in seeing the bird, it seemed to favour the reedbed edge between the gate and the big gap in the hedgerow (almost in the same place as last years wintering reed warbler). Other birds included; Mute Swan 2 Greylag Goose 41 Gadwall 12 Teal 71 Mallard 11 Red-legged Partridge 1 Pheasant 1 Grey Heron 1 Little Grebe 1 Sparrowhawk 1 (female) Water Rail c7 (at least) Moorhen 5 Golden Plover 30 (flight only) Lapwing 1 Curlew 9 Snipe 1 Black-headed Gull 53 Common Gull c40 Lesser Black-backed Gull 1 Great Black-backed Gull 2 Feral Pigeon 19 Stock Dove 15 Woodpigeon 1 Kestrel 1 Magpie 1 Jackdaw 25 Rook 40 Carrion Crow c18 Blue Tit 6 Great Tit 4 Cetti's Warbler 2 (singing birds) Long-tailed Tit 7 Chiffchaff 3 Chiffchaff (Siberian - tristis) 1 Wren c15 Starling 20 Blackbird 8 Fieldfare 55 Song Thrush 1 Redwing 3 Robin 2 Dunnock 10 Pied Wagtail 1 Bullfinch 1 Greenfinch 2 Lesser Redpoll 3 Goldfinch 4 Reed Bunting 6 As I was leaving Marston village, I had a peregrine overhead.... A number of new birds for the year, bring my Lincs year list to 90 species.... |
