Wednesday 6th Jan.

A Skein of Pinkies overflew the A158 at Edlington west to east at 1435hrs this afternoon in the gloom. I turned down Shearmans Wath in the car and saw the geese were circling low over a field to the east of the village of West Ashby and landed. I drove around to Midthorpe and located the flock of 85 grazing a wheat field and observed until 1515hrs.

Meanwhile back at the gravel pits the water levels are at last responding to the recent rain. wildfowl numbers are generally low but 1 or 2 Green Sandpipers can still be seen most days.

A skein of about 40 pinkfeet, very high and heading north, flew over Woodhall Spa at 11.15 yesterday morning (6 Jan)
