Post subject:  Woodhall: two new birds in a day

A Goldcrest was a new garden bird this morning.

This afternoon, from the Witham Bank, 36 species including:
Red-breasted Merganser - adult male, new for the area
Little Egret 1
Redshank 1
Oystercatcher 2
Short-eared Owl 1
Kingfisher 1

I'm glad I read your report. Just on the offchance I had a ride from Kirkstead to Tattershall Bridge and
found the Merganser about half way down. Only my second ever sighting of the species so it made my day - it was cold and damp but I forgot about the weather for a while watching this gorgeous bird. (see photos in album)
