The WeBS count for the realignment area brought some pleasant results. Avocets were up to 36 birds, a Little Ringed Plover was displaying and the first 2 Whimbrel flew north calling. A skein of ca.48 Pink-footed Geese passed high to the NW. A Short-eared Owl was present with 2 Common Buzzards, 2 Peregrines and a ringtail Hen Harrier. My earliest-ever Common Whitethroat was singing and other migrants included 5 Chiffchaffs, one Blackcap, 2 Goldcrests, one Yellow Wagtail, one White Wagtail, 2 Swallows and 2 Sand Martins.
An afternoon spent in North Somercotes Warren produced at least 30 singing Chiffchaffs, 6 Blackcaps and 5 Willow Warblers.
