The continuous rain meant that I had Stonebridge to Pye's Hall all to myself, just as it often used to be. The high tide was up to the dunes and brought in good views of 3 Little Gulls and 4 Black Terns leisurely moving out eastwards. Other highlights included one Wigeon, 5 Whimbrel, 2 Ruffs, 2 Little Ringed Plovers, 2 Greenshanks, one Peregrine, 2 Short-eared Owls, one Garden Warbler, 5 Blackcaps, one Spotted Flycatcher, one Tree Pipit and one White Wagtail.
Even after all these years, I never fail to be stunned by the striking appearance of summer-plumaged Grey Plovers. There were 70 present this morning, presenting the full gamut of plumages.
