Was pleasantly surprised to find a Grey Wagtail near Caistor this evening.
No breeding in this part of the county - as far as I know.

Roy, I used to see them regularly at Caistor sewage works but have not gone there recently. I have seen and photographed young there so can confirm they do breed in that part of the county.

Thanks Russell,
Didn't think there was suitable habitat at Caistor although it is suspected that they might breed by the river at Tealby.

I have seen young at the sewage works at Tealby also.
Sewage works are ideal for them as there is a supply of insects/ flies and as most discharge to a watercourse then there is a fresh water supply too.
I have also seen adults near you at North Kelsey sewage works but can not confirm if they have bred there.

A bright vocal bird flew low south over Teal Lake at Whisby NR this afternoon (09.07), which was the first of the ‘autumn’, a species that is exclusively a passage and winter visitor here.

Not sure I would call Grey Wagtails an 'exclusive' passage/winter visitor at Whisby Ben. We have had summer records before (e.g.2011) and these probably represent post breeding dispersal from birds that are reported to nest in Lincoln city centre.

Thanks Grahame,

I had meant to chiefly infer that Grey Wagtail does not breed within the recording area of Whisby NR & North Hykeham Pits.

The record of a juvenile at Apex Pit on 30.06.2011 is certainly very interesting.

Even closer than the city centre, I have encountered Grey Wagtail at the North Hykeham Witham pumping station in May/Jun
before;
