I witnessed something unusual in a garden at about 4.30pm yesterday.
A mouse/vole/ shrew was venturing out of undergrowth to feed on uneaten seed that house sparrows etc had scattered from a feeder.
Every time it did so, it was "dive-bombed" by a wren so it scuttled back to its refuge. Finally, it decided to stay in seclusion.
It can't have been competition for food - the wren just didn't appreciate the furry invader on its patch.
This all happened (about four times) at lightning speed.
