For those interested there's a live camera on a Lincolnshire Barn Owl in a owl tower near Bourne. The female is sitting 3 eggs which are due to hatch second week in June

The barn owls in the owl tower near Bourne laid three infertile eggs.
The female has re-laid and now has three eggs with the possibility of more to come this week.

The owl tower barn owl has now completed her clutch of seven eggs.
Hopefully they will begin to hatch from the end of this month.

Earlier this week the barn owl was incubating five eggs.
Two eggs have disappeared and it is likely she has eaten them.
Nest cameras are a fairly recent phenomenon but they are helping us to understand more about the intimate life of these birds.
Let's hope she doesn't eat any more as we are only about seven days from the first egg hatching.

As the expected hatching time arrived the owls seemed to realise their eggs were not viable and began scratching vigorously in the substrate. This scattered the three remaining eggs and the hen bird stopped incubating.
The pair often return to the nest box and the male has been bringing prey now and again.
So two clutches of eggs have produced no chicks this year.
We are learning so much from nest box cameras, some good some bad, but all of it adds to our knowledge of the complex breeding cycle these birds embark upon each spring.
Perhaps 2017 will be a successful year for this pair?
