Very elusive (Friday). Took nearly 8 hours to catch up with it. Eventually saw saw it for under a minute from the road leading to the livery stables. Was in a square pool not visible from the hide (beyond the reeds) and kept disappearing into the reeds for lengthy periods
Compensation was 11 spoonbill, 6 water rail, a peregrine, a bearded tit, 4 spotted redshank and 3 marsh harriers

Picked up swampy back in the original area at dawn yesterday and it performed all day from the first hide showing very well in good light. Late afternoon it walked right and out of sight but flew back to the viewable spot at 16:55.
It will feature on the BBC One show with Mike Dilger in the coming weeks and will post here when I hear the date so everyone can have a laugh! And appreciate what 11 hours filming condenses to

Does anyone know if this might be the same bird as that seen last month at Minsmere?

Flight shots indicate that the Alkborough bird has the same feather pattern as the one seen at Minsmere.
