18.9.16 at Greetwell Hollow: Probable Jack Snipe flushed from one of the temporary pools. Rose at a shallow angle and dropped quickly into cover. Certainly not a Common Snipe due to its flight style and smallish size. However did not get a good view of marking, though pale underneath. Also seen: Green Woodpecker and 3 Linnets. In addition, mysterious rising scale bird call from scrub area, a little like a pipit or Lark. No sign of bird apart from this. Any ideas? |

I have heard a Corn Bunting several times elsewhere, in the past. This did not sound anything like that. It was Pipit like in an ascending scale and rather ethereal in effect. Nothing I have heard before, and coming from the ground or a bush, just once and then it stopped . Will probably remain a mystery. |
