> Hi,
> I thought you would like to know that I was at Marston on Saturday (1st October)
> (about 3pm) walking from the hide back to the main path when I heard a
> Phyllosc warbler call which drew my attention from the poolside
> willows. It was a sharp, staccato downward two tone call, like the
> reverse of Chiffchaff. I am familiar with Greenish Warbler calls from
> India (albeit several years ago now) and it is that species that
> struck me immediately. Unfortunately it only called a couple of times
> and I couldn't see it, then the heavens opened and we retreated to the
> car. I went home and checked what I had heard against Greenish and
> also the odd Chiffchaff sweeoo call. I couldn't find any recordings of
> Chiffchaff that sounded as loud and sharp as the Marston bird but the
> recordings of Greenish fitted my memory of what I had heard.
> I therefore went back this afternoon to see if I could re-find it.
> After about an hour searching I was about to leave and was walking
> back along the path from the main reserve to the car park and heard it
> again in a Sycamore half way along that path. As I approached to try
> and get a view of the bird it flew out of the tree high across to the
> pool area. It was clearly a Phyllosc and very white underneath but I couldn't see any more.
> It disappeared from view and after a further half hour I had to leave
> frustrated.
