Highlights from a day's seawatch at Sutton-on-Sea: 10 Red-throated Diver 2 Sooty Shearwater 104 Gannet 4 Velvet Scoter 520 Common Scoter 13 Long-tailed Duck (inc 8 sat on the sea together) 17 Scaup 1 Red-breasted Merganser 1CY Glaucous Gull 266 Kittiwake (minimum) 12 Great Skua 2 Pomarine Skua 1 Arctic Skua 3 Little Auk 15-20 auk sp Peregrine over the sea A brief look at Mablethorpe first thing produced 2 Woodcock in off and a Stonechat present Regards Chris (with GPC, Neil Drinkall & Josh Forrester) |

Again interesting to note the difference in birds seen along the coast. I watched from Mill Hill at Gib from 0700 to 1045 and 1400 to 1600 0700 to 1045 Shelduck 3 Teal 13S Tufted Duck 5N Common Scoter 160 (30 on sea and 130S) Red-breasted Merganser 3S Unidentified diver 4 Cormorant 239 Great Crested Grebe 1 on sea Turnstone 6S Snipe2 Great Skua 2S Waxwing 1S (KMW) Grey Wagtail 1N Brent Goose 14S Wigeon 46 (32S 14N) Eider 1 on sea Goldeneye 3S Red-throated Diver 7 (2N 4S and 1 on sea) Pomarine Skua 7S (all pale adults) Unidentified auk 17 (16S 1N) Peregrine 2 (a juv mobbing Barn Owl over Measure’s and a juv male in/off landed on beach briefly) 1400 to 1600 Shelduck 1N Teal 19S Common Scoter 20 on sea Gannet 49 (38S 11N) Turnstone 4S Great Skua 4 (3S 1N) Kittiwake 89S Merlin 2 along beach Brent Goose 9S Wigeon 34S Eider 2 (1S 1 on sea) Red-throated Diver 2 (1N 1 on sea) Cormorant 22 Pomarine Skua 2S Unidentified auk 4 Regards Nige |

Nige, That's an interesting and comprehensive list of birds seen at Gib Pt. However, I do have one request : is it possible for you (and others) to add a space between numbers and directions S and N (particularly S) ? A less than leisurely scan could otherwise read, if only initially : Red-breasted Merganser 35 Red-breasted Merganser 3 S Waxwing 15 Waxwing 1 S Brent Geese 145 Brent Geese 14 S The 5 and S are more difficult to differentiate accurately in you post than in my examples. For those of us over 60 without 20/20 vision, ( although I HAVE been to SpecSavers/ 5pec5avers), the gap would be of help. Thanks. Regards Freddy |
