Baumber, 5th December
Both yesterday and again today I have had a male Brambling coming to the seed feeders in the garden. This is my first sighting of the winter. Other birds at the feeders, where activity has increased since the advent of the cooler weather, include c15 Tree Sparrows plus smaller numbers of Chaffinch, Greenfinch and 2/3sp of Tits. House Sparrow is considered a rarity at these feeders, something I find quite strange as there are breeding birds within 50 yards!
100 yards away from the garden in a field I have a plot of Wild Bird Cover which is predominated by Fodder Radish which has attracted a large flock of Linnet (c120) together with Chaffinches. When this foggy weather has cleared I must monitor it a bit more closely as I suspect that could be where the Brambling originated.
