Pleasantly surprised to have a Great Grey Shrike ( spotted by Mrs Sharp Eyes - Monica!) whilst doing a morning patch walk - new patch tick. Excellent views as it worked the roadside hedge row leading down to Claxby from Dawber Lane. Looked very adult male-ish of nominate form excubitor. There had to be a good bird today because I decided not to carry my camera as it was a bit misty!! We could not relocate it when we returned half an hour later. Also had 2 Grey Wagtails on Claxby pond. |

Presumably the same Great Grey Shrike was present in the same area again yesterday morning. I followed it as it worked its way up to Dawber Lane and then along the hedgerow down Dawber Lane to the quarry on the north side where I lost it. |

Hi, Shrike present in same area this morning at 9:30am. On the map, the lane is called Shaddys Walk, which joins Dawber Lane (near A1028) and Claxby village. The Shrike was quite mobile and spent all of its time between the tops of the large Ash trees down this lane. Although it did stand out from a distance initially, due to it appearing very pale. |
