Post subject:  Cleethorpes Blackcap

It makes a nice change to the standard avian fare when a handsome cock blackcap decides to pay you a visit. Not for the first time, we've had one in our town garden here in Richmond Rd for most of the past week.

He's keen on those big slabs of fat that the starlings squabble over and he also has a look at the sunflower hearts, though he doesn't really know what to do with them - as you'd expect.

A blackcap at close quarters in wintertime is something we don't see that often and it provides an opportunity to get to know the jizz of a bird that's oft-heard but seldom seen during the breeding season. Strange to watch it, uncharacteristically hopping about on the grass amongst the chaffinches etc.

I'm not sure Richmond Rd is the most obvious of holiday hotspots either for humans or birds, but we've been honoured to welcome him!
