a.Dunsby (near Bourne) :

Further to Hugh Dorrington's post of 22nd June (below), I drove down to Dunsby today (1st July) from Lincoln. Hugh had kindly offered to show me 3 Spotted Flycatcher 2017 territories in the village where young birds had recently fledged and had remained in the area. We recorded :

Territory 1 : Adult feeding a young bird on posts at the edge of a field, with the second adult in the vicinity.

Territory 2 : Adult feeding a young bird, plus we checked the empty nest from which the young birds had recently fledged.

Territory 3 : The empty nest was behind a wooden trellis on a house wall.

That visit to Dunsby was the fourth or fifth yearly occasion on which Hugh has shown me the village's SpotFlys......many thanks, Hugh.

b. Edenham (near Bourne) :

En route to Dunsby, I had visited the small village of Edenham, particularly the Parish Church of St. Michael and All Angels. In fact, it was a revisit as the churchyard is a traditional nesting site for SpotFly. I wasn't disappointed, recording an adult bird flycatching from an ancient Yew and also gravestones.

An enjoyable day out in the sun after the recent spell of miserable weather we've been experiencing.

Freddy
