Whilst walking around my patch at East Keal I came across a pair of Spotted Flycatchers feeding 4 very recently fledged young. Given the date, I'm assuming this was a second brood. Also quite good numbers of some common warblers on the move and Buzzards feeding 1 or possibly 2 recently fledged youngsters. A good time for proof of breeding

Cheers
Phil

I also noted a second brood of Flycatchers at our sister wood, Norton Disney Big Wood, today.
A pair were feeding two fledglings. I suspect that there are more than one pair on this site having seen individual birds earlier in the year at the other end of the wood.

At Hill Holt Wood i have found one pair on a second brood to add to the three nests already fledged.
13 young fledged from the first nests and there are 3 young in the current nest.
Hopefully these sites will continue to appeal to the birds and form a bit of a Flycatcher stronghold.

Also a single Whooper on Norton Disney small lake.

Cheers,

Oliver
