A couple hours this morning; 6 Avocet 8 Redshank 3 Black Tailed Godwit 1 Ringed Plover 50+/- Lapwing 30+/- Shelduck Numerous gulls Also, 99% certain an Arctic Skua was present, flying low and harrassing the gulls and Shelducks - the 1% of doubt is that I didn't expect to see one down the Humber - anyone know if they can be present in such areas? Hi Barry, There is a long list of seabirds recorded on the upper humber,and in the right conditions can be quite spectacular,with concentrations of birds just off the viewing area at the humber bridge,this seems to be a barrier to most birds,but some pass over like your Arctic Skua.The best conditions are usually when the wind is in the eastern quarter,combined with showers,i personally have seen all four skua species at one time,combined with large numbers of Gannets,Kittiwake,seaduck and on rare occasions Leach's Petrel,so your sighting was very possible,keep looking in the right conditions and iam sure you will be rewarded.As a thought,try and look off the viewing area at Hessle,as i have seen Leach's Petrel off here as well as Little Auk and Grey Phalorope,and it will save on that extortionate bridge toll.
