Post subject:  Alkborough Flats 19/09/07

I was fortunate enough to have a guided tour around the Alkborough Flats site on Wednesday 19 September. The list below is the birds we saw – all of which were visible from the public footpath that runs through the site down from the church, and by the maze and church. A fantastic site.


Our records for the day were:

Little stint – 3
Curlew sandpiper – 4
Knot – 5
Dunlin – c30
Black-tailed godwit – 55
Ruff – 31
Avocet – 52
Greenshank – 1
Redshank – 20+
Snipe – 5+
Golden plover – c30 flew over
Ringed plover – 2
Curlew – 2
Pintail – 1
Little egret – 11
Kingfisher - 1
Marsh harrier – 1 juvenile
Merlin – 1 imm. male and 1 juv/female – both birds together along fence by public footpath
Swift – 1 or 2
Yellow wagtail – 1
Tree sparrow – 40+
Meadow pipit – 100+ in flight over fields
Willow tit – 1 calling by the maze
Chiffchaff – 4+ by maze and church
Goldcrest – 2+ by maze and church
Jay – 1 by maze
