A few hours at Chowder Ness this morning;

6 Curlew
18 Lapwing
24 Ringed Plover
2 Golden Plover
18 Dunlin
6 Mute Swan
2 Whimbrel
1 C Sandpiper

As leaving site, a Black Redstart flew in and landed on telephone wire. Good views of the bird so able to confirm identity. Anyone know just how rare it is to see this bird or are they quite common on migration?

hi, Pretty Difficult to come across inland,easier on the coast,nice find!!!.

the Black Redstart has been there since August 11th but is very elusive and has only been seen on 5 occasions in 6 weeks; a scarce migrant inland but not that unusual; the following are records from Barton and the local south bank area:

Barton April 9th 1983, April 6th 1985, April 24th 1985, first-summer male in song old jetty June 18th 1989, fem/imm Sth Marsh Farm April 7th 1994, first-summer male building site by Water’s Edge April 3rd 2002
cracking adult male Water’s Edge November 24-29th 2003

Barrow.Haven April 14th 1977, Oct 7-8th 1977, April 6th 1981, May 12th 1981

Goxhill south end March 25th 1974, March 14th 1987

N.Holland May 7th 1988; 1 Oxmarsh lane Oct 29th with 2 different birds in same spot November 6th 1997.

Glad your agreeing with me for once gpc,difficult to come across inland,i actually meant more away from the coastal/estuary margins,there was no need to go throu all your records to try and prove me wrong,do you have a life besides birdwatching?,it makes me wonder sometimes!!
