We now have a second pair of Raven resident in the county , a few miles from the Belton pair.

They have been present together since August 2006, or at least thats when I first found them.

They must surely be young birds from the Belton pair , presumably different generations, this has got me thinking about ' inbreeding ' within a species and how common it must be ?

Does anybody have any info on this subject ?

Regards

Trev

I guess we never know when new stock joins an inbred population; the Barnacle Geese on the Humber originated from a single pair of injured birds which were kept in semi-captivity for many years; they bred and their young bred etc and last week I counted 341 so unless they have had some new blood then inbreeding does not seem to inhibit population expansion!
