A bumper crop of species this time, unlike yesterday! Star Performer of the day has to go to a MALE HEN HARRIER that barrelled its way across the reserve about 5 mins before I left. Other species seen: Thousands of Knot on the shore line 15 Redshanks 200 Lapwings 1 Ringed Plover 5 Oystercatcher 7 Curlew A few Grey Plover A few more Golden Plover 10 Little Egrets The first decently-sized flock of Dark-Bellied Brent Geese Hundreds of Canada Geese 1 Barnacle Goose 20 Greylag Geese A weird Canada/White-fronted goose hybrid... Usual Mallards 30 Wigeon 12 Little Grebes 20 Shelduck on shore line 15 Herring Gulls, with many more behind farmers' tractors on the way there. Usual Black-headed Gulls, with many more behind farmers' tractors on the way there. 1 Grey Heron 3 Tree Sparrows 7 House Sparrows 1 Rock Pipit 1 Goldfinch 2 Wrens 3 Fieldfare 17 Blackbirds 3 flocks of Starlings 1 Magpie 4 Pheasants in fields on the way PHEW!
