3 hours from first light produced the following: Siskin 20S Redpoll 6S Brambling 4S Twite 9 Fieldfare 4 in off G S Pecker 1 Snipe 22 Avocet 1 Water Rail 1 Brent Goose 32 on Tennysons briefly. 16 adults and 16 juvs RT Diver 18 Kittiwake 66S Gannet 6S Common Scoter 38S Pom Skua 1S At 0954 a small auk flew south at some distance. My initial thought was Little Auk and it was recorded as such but I made a note that it was "rolling" from side to side, a feature I didnt recall for Little Auk. A check of Flight ID of seabirds tell me that "rolling from side to side" is common for a Puffin which it obviously was. No doubt many readers will be aware of this but for those who do not see Puffin or Little Auk that often (and who does in Lincs?) it is a useful ID character! Just goes to show there is always something to learn!! Regards Nige |
