Its part of the massive amount of surveying that both governement and NGO bodies are doing to act as an early warning system if there is a large mortality of wild birds that MAY indicate Avian Flu. This is costing those that do it a lot of time and money, and then you have to watch Bernard Mathews get £1000's in compensation for bringing it in the country themselves.

Is it me, or is everything sh*t.

I'm with you Paul. As regards bird flu they try every which way to blame wild birds and close their eyes to the poultry traffic from dodgy countries and dodgy sources. B Matthews should have been compensating us!

John

Agree with your comments folks , but as Paul says, we are told to do these surveys twice per month, and have to follow a strict protocol should we find any dead or dying birds, of a range of listed species, (at least i get a couple of hours out birding on the foreshore), we are also on bluetongue alert as we have sheep and cattle on the NNR, wonder what the situation would be if rabies came in to the country?. John.
