I thought Forum members would be interested in the following email....

Top Left Birds.

Both these birds have carmine pink on the left leg which indicates they were ringed at either Deerhill reservoir (GBWYO SE0711) just SW of Huddersfield or Warley reservoir (GBWYO SE0231) to N of Halifax. There have been 25 twite ringed with this combination at Warley and 230 at Deerhill this year.

Similar cr-rings have already been reported this month at Saltfleet Haven, Titchwell, and Walberswick (Suffolk). The top bird in this photo has a suggestion of what the blue/yellow stripe which was the year colour - this may be clearer in the original.

Middle Top and Middle bottom have the same colour combination

Red over blue/yellow strip which indicates a bird ringed at Cant Clough reservoir (GBLAN - SD8930) where red is the site colour and blue over yellow was used in the autumn of 2006. There were 69 ringed with this combination that autumn.

Bottom left: I can only see the carmine ring here so it is a bird from one of the two west Yorkshire sites mention above.

Bottom left. This bird can be identified as an individual because of the yellow above metal on the right. The left leg has orange/blue stripe( spring of 2004) over red for Cant Clough reservoir site. this bird has the BTO metal R548513 and was ringed on 26.04.2004 and has been seen again at Cant Clough on 17.06.2006, elapsed time 1 yr 356days; at Cant Clough on 5.04.2007 suggesting it was there as a breeding bird and elapsed time of 2 years 344 days.

Your sighting in the photos has the elapsed time of 3 years 215 days and Donna Nook is 157 km from cant Clough.

I also had an email from a Richard Thomas who also visited Donna Nook yesterday with John Clarkson, and saw a bird with a red ring in a flock of 20+ in the overflow car park and also had another flock of 70+ while there which ties in nicely with you 100 or so.

Cheers for now dave
