Took a walk round Whisby this morning (seems a long time since there was a report on the forum from here) just to get my new year list going

I soon noticed a Herring Gull on one of the artificial platforms on Grebe Lake. About three hours later Phil Porter asked me if I had seen the Yellow Legged Gull.

Oops!

It was still showing well when I left about 12:00 and apparently it had been on the reserve since early December.

Also about was
Water Rail (squealing in the swamp land just beyond the Sand Martin colony)
Coot (many)
Gadwall
Wigeon (a few)
Pochard
Bullfinch

For interest, our wintering Yellow-legged Gull has been present on Grebe Lake since 1 December 07, with possibly the same bird at Lincoln Tip on 5 November 07. Intially coming in to roost on one of the Tern rafts, he (I assume its a male based on size) seems to spend most of the day loafing around Grebe Lake at the moment.

What is assumed to be the same bird first turned up in exactly the same place during Feb 2006 and stayed until April, returned in Dec of that year and stayed until Feb 2007.

Regards

Grahame

Surely a two bird theory is perfectly feasible?

That may be so but I don't think so. It was in the same place both times and I didn't look at itclosely first time round. It showed its legs nicely when it bothered to stand

Fair play - at least you got it in the end.
