My garden in Rippinglae:- 7.20 am whilst filling the coal scuttle (yes, we still have to do that sort of thing here in the sticks!)in the gloaming, a Tawny Owl flew over no nore than a few feet above my head. 8.35 am talking on the phone to a colleague I watched a Barn Owl hunting along a grass strip abutting the cereal field adjacent to our garden. Then a Mistle Thrush flew in from nowhere and the Owl flew up and over the hedge in to the garden. It stayed only for a few seconds before realising ( I conjecture) that it's assailant was not a raptor and flew back over the hedge to resume its' circuit of the field. The Tawny is a garden regular but this is only the second time I have seen a Barn Owl in the garden. Ian |
