4 Whooper Swans on Nocton Fen today (Saturday) with 6 Mute Swans (1.30pm) c100m on the left past the large open barn coming from Wasps Nest. Regards, Freddy |

The 4 Whooper Swans are still on the Fen in the same area with 12 Mute Swans ( Sunday 12.30 ). Regards, Freddy |

Thought I would have a ride round Nocton Fen this afternoon and try for some photos of the Whoopers. Was just approaching the large barn from Wasps Nest direction at about 2:30 pm and could see the swans in the field beyond. I was just thinking they are going to be in digiscoping range when a large tractor dragging a grader drove past close to the swans and the Whoopers took off and disappeared in a south-easterly direction. When I was able to stop at the end of the track to the barn I was able to confirm that the mutes had stayed put and the Whoopers had gone -almost within seconds of me being able to get some pics. C'est la vie - next time I'll leave home five minutes earlier! |

Thanks for that Derek. I took another ride round Nocton Fen early this afternoon and the Whoopers were there in the same spot that was where I saw them frightened off on Monday. As a bonus the black swan was also there together with a number of mutes. Not often you see the three different species in one small group!. |

25 whooper 1 bewick and 6 mute at Huttoft Pit midday yesterday,060308 Whoopers calling and head bobbing, guess they will soon be leaving. John. |
