Post subject:  Whisby weekly summery

I’ll received a lot of positive comments regarding these weekly updates so will continue at least until the spring season settles down.

This summary covers Thurs 24th April to Thurs 1st May

Hobby – first bird back on 26th with singles on 27th and 29th Likely to be seen anywhere but Teal Lake is a reliable spot.
Common Sandpiper – 2 on Grebe Lake on 26th
Little Gull – 2 summer adults on Grebe Lake today 1st May.
Common Tern – 1 or 2 seen daily since 25th around Coot/Grebe/Teal Lakes
Swift – late (for Whisby) this year, the first birds were seen on 28th but have been daily since. Over 100+ at Teal Lake today 1st May
Turtle Dove – first bird returned on 29th. Pylon Enclosure and Plover Beach are usually reliable spots.
Nightingale – 8 singing males have currently returned. Some of these birds have, for those patient enough, been showing very well.
Garden Warbler – notable influx on 27th with birds at several locations.
Grasshopper Warbler – 2 birds continue to reel
Brambling – up to 2 birds still in the Oakwood on 25th and 26th

In addition the following are now widespread and should be easily heard/seen in the right habitat; Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler.

Regards

Grahame
