I’ll received a lot of positive comments regarding these weekly updates so will continue at least until the spring season settles down.
This summary covers Thurs 24th April to Thurs 1st May
Hobby – first bird back on 26th with singles on 27th and 29th Likely to be seen anywhere but Teal Lake is a reliable spot. Common Sandpiper – 2 on Grebe Lake on 26th Little Gull – 2 summer adults on Grebe Lake today 1st May. Common Tern – 1 or 2 seen daily since 25th around Coot/Grebe/Teal Lakes Swift – late (for Whisby) this year, the first birds were seen on 28th but have been daily since. Over 100+ at Teal Lake today 1st May Turtle Dove – first bird returned on 29th. Pylon Enclosure and Plover Beach are usually reliable spots. Nightingale – 8 singing males have currently returned. Some of these birds have, for those patient enough, been showing very well. Garden Warbler – notable influx on 27th with birds at several locations. Grasshopper Warbler – 2 birds continue to reel Brambling – up to 2 birds still in the Oakwood on 25th and 26th
In addition the following are now widespread and should be easily heard/seen in the right habitat; Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler.
