Post subject:  Whisby weekly summary

Hi all

This summary covers Friday 2nd to today Friday 9th May. Again many observers have contributed and everyones records are much appreciated.

Garganey – those that braved the Bank Holiday were rewarded with a superb drake on 5th (was this bird also seen on Sunday 4th? If anyone reading this can confirm can you drop me a PM please)
Hobby – 1 to 2 birds seen on most days
Med Gull – the adult continues with daily sightings
Common Tern – the main influx arrived on 2nd May, now impossible to miss around the various waterbodies
Arctic Tern – 1 on Apex Pit today 9th May
Black Tern – 4 superb summer birds on Apex Pit today 9th May
Turtle Dove – 4 or 5 territories becoming established
Tawny Owl – a pair bred in the Oakwood and 2 young Owlets were seen there on the 4th
Nightingale – at least 10 singing males have so far been recorded

All the commoner warblers can still be heard/seen (particularly Garden Warbler) except for the Groppers which have now stopped reeling.

Regards

Grahame
