I'm not sure if the following have been reported before, but reading through the ornithological survey rports from Centrica's Lincs windfarm scheme, there were single ring billed gull, surf scoter and king eider seen from survey vessels between March 04 and March 06 around the Lincs windfarm survey area up to 12km or so offshore from Skegness. I don't think the latter two species are on the county list. Cheers Kev |

Any details on who saw them and whether they have submitted descriptions? An offshore ring-billed gull is going to need a good description... |

birders get easily bored on boats! if birds are not seen from the shore I don't think they count for the County list anyway or at least they shouldn't! |

In my experience doing wind farm surveys there is no time to make detailed, at-the-moment descriptions or even to study a bird for extended periods. The survey boat is chugging along at 10 knots and the surveyors are (or should be) busy collecting data. Gulls often come close and even follow the boats for a long time but ducks get out of the way pretty quickly. We must wait and see if descriptions are submitted to the county rarities committee! And where is the county border at sea? John |
