The Lincolnshire Bird Club

Quiet in bad conditions at Saltfleet in the first couple of hours after dawn with 2 Garden Warblers and a Reed Warbler the only apparent migrants.

Far more productive at Donna Nook. Highlight was a stunning Roller which I picked up flying in from the north. The bird alighted briefly then continued south again in the direction of North Somercotes. I walked most of the way towards Howden's Pullover but no joy relocating it.

Also at Donna Nook an Icterine Warbler and a singing Marsh Warbler in buckthorn east of Stonebridge car park. Plenty of other interesting migrants too including a Hobby in off the sea, a male Ring Ouzel, 2 Pied Flys, 9 Spotted Flys, 3 Redstarts, a Black Redstart, Whinchat, 3 Tree Pipits and 5 Garden Warblers.

In the afternoon a Honey Buzzard headed north over Saltfleetby at 1340.

Song Thrush by the Grandstand on the Carholme
Two Mallard flying up Sincil Drain and the Mute Swans on the river at lunchtime

Flock of Swift over Pride Park in Derby yesterday - the fastest thing seen on the wing at that football ground for years

It certainly was a cracking day!

Being a teacher-birder means that the the May and October half-terms are very important times of the year, which usually fall short....but not this time. It's also amazing that I should find several good birds in one day. I've been watching Saltfleet every morning before work all spring with nothing more than a Goshawk and a good selection of common migrants (in April, May has been dire) to show for it.

I should add that I didn't see another birder the whole day.

Congratulations James on what has been a magnificent day for east-facing coasts.

I went to northwest Norfolk and saw absolutely nothing. Can't help but feel ill.

I bet there were more birders on Spurn yesterday than what were in the whole of Lincs. I hardly ever see any birders around Saltfleet.
It was just my luck to be stuck in the midlands on the best day of the year so far.

Well done on an excellent find,a Dream Bird for many Id guess,including me.Not very often i get on the coast but ive noticed a lack of birders there.
Just wish some of this would sneak inland,perhaps the odd marsh warbler,worth looking for.
