Returning from an evening stroll at 9.20 today I looked around from my garden to see a Peregrine in a shallow stoop strike a Swift about 50m from where I was standing. The impact was clearly audible. The Peregrine adjusted its catch and made its way to St James Church where two birds were present last winter but only a female occasionally in recent months.
I should have said that Swifts are small fry, and difficult, for a Peregrine and I suspect that this was just opportunistic rather than a planned attack. A light snack on its way back to roost! Now that's what I call fast food.
