Instead of standing on a picket line, decided to spend today birding around Scunthorpe. The first disapointment was flushing 2 buzzards out of a field and not realising the remaining big, black crow-like bird was a photographable juvenile buzzard which then took off into the distance. Luckily I managed to find 2 whinchats, photo on Forum. Lots of whitethroats and willow warblers about.
Moved onto second location, again several buzzards in the air, tried extremely hard to photograph them but as usual 'dust'! Several pairs of kestrels, very busy feeding young. Took a detour and located some bushes full of tree sparrows, couldn't manage to get a photo but sat and enjoyed watching them.
Moved on again and watched a pair of hobbys, again too big a sky but fantastic views of them catching dragonflys.
Another strike day tomorrow so I'll be out and about again.
