Post subject:  Gib - recent sightings

A green woodpecker was trapped and ringed during the week - this species is now annual here.

yesterday (Saturday), 26 species of wader were present on the reserve including he pectoral sandpiper, little stint, curlew sandpiper, 2 spotted redshank, ruff and three wood sandpiper. I heard 16 species from the office during the course of the day.

Through the breeding season, there have been very low numbers of willow warblers but this morning saw the first significant autumn arrival. I had 15 around the garden at Aylmer, but reports from others indicate possibly about 60 birds seen or ringed. Also, a wood warbler early on moved southward through the scrub at the north end of the west dunes.

Cheers
