A cracking afternoon on the shore with up to 1200 sandwich terns settled and 1000 in a feeding flock offshore continuously and large numbers of terns arriving from the north, joining the feeding flock on the ebb tide or settling on the beach and moving off south. Difficult to count accurately but estimates follow. Also, very good numbers of arctic skua. At one stage, 44 birds in view - again, these were arriving from the north, joining the feeding flock and moving off south. There had been some southerly movement before the feeding flock established.

sandwich tern 5100
common tern 950
arctic tern 45
pom skua 1 light phase - ragged bird with no tail maybe sub adult
arctic skua 95
kittiwake 45
gannet 10
razorbill
whimbrel 12
wheatear.

Cheers

Is there a way to get to Gib beach without going through the snake-infested bit?

You could see if the Boston Belle could drop you off!

Seriously, I would not say that the beach access from the car park is snake-infested. You would have to look hard to see a grass snake if you wanted to see one - especially with the number of visitors using the track currently.

Cheers

I've been to Gib. Pt.. many times and never seen a snake, plenty of sheep poo at the moment though.
