1 dark juv flushed from drain side on Croft Marsh 16:00 2 dark juvs flew South low over my garden at c17:00 Seems to be quite a few about again. |

If one flew over my house, what would be some in-flight ID indicators to look out for? |

Hi katherine, To id a honey,it needs to be fairly close,other than prolonged views of flight profile distant in breeding areas,they do do not hold their wingtips raised when circling/soaring,,in fact slightly downcurved mostly,their is a lot of plumage variation,ideally a nominant bird with tail bars,to put it simply much more barring on the underwings/longer winged,thou hard to be definite,.to be fair all the cuckoo head etc aint gonna help,what you need is an experienced birder to point one out to you and help with the differences. the first influx i went up on risby warren and had cracking views of one and just as i got on it,one of the alk flats lads joined me to enjoy it also.but we had it really close. cheers rog. |
