Another amazing day - birds everywhere - but as I was only around after the rain stopped this afternoon I'll leave it to Kev to chronicle the true extent of todays fall.
My own notable birds seen were:

Olive backed Pipit - 1 disturbed in the West Dunes opposite the yacht club gave good but brief views and called loudly as it flew. I briefly relocated it half an hour later near the Sycamores opposite Sykes entrance when again I disturbed it
It perched briefly in a dead Elm and then - in the gathering dusk - flew under the Sycamores where it was really too dark to see. Hopefully it will still be around tomorrow
Pallas Warbler - 1 still showing well at North Building
Waxwing - 14 West Dunes
Crossbill - 4 Feeding on cones in North Car Park. One bird was on the ground next to the gate for some time feeding on a pine cone.
Black Redstart - 3 - 1 ad m, 1 imm m and a female on the field Station buildings

I have not collated all migrant counts for the day yet, but probably at least 2000 blackbirds, 500 redwing, 300 fieldfare, 300 goldcrest, 55 woodcock, 7 sparrowhawk, 6 blackcap, 6 chiffchaff.

A Pallas's warbler was ringed at the Obs - probably one of the two near north building yesterday. The other bird (at North BUilding) remained and showed very well late afternoon.

Also lessser whitethroat, firecrest and two ring ouzels on the East Dunes with another two ring ouzels elsewhere. 2-3 mobile waxwings around during the morning, then a flock of 13 on the west dunes later in the day.
Up to 19 crossbills about - some showing v well in Beach Car Park.

An additional bid seen yesterday, was an interesting wheatear that flew west across the Old Saltmarsh and disappeared !

(Todays records from Ed, Nige Lound, David Wright, Michael Briggs and George Gregory)

Cheers

Kev

I need to get up there before my op!

What's the quickest way from Skeg railway station? Walking, nearby bus route or taxi?

No bus service I'm afraid so a taxi or walk/cycle. If you are walking, you can avoid the road and come down the dunes/saltmasrh edge from South Parade.

Omissions from my earlier list of birds and observers; 2 long-eared owls and John Shaughnessy

Cheers

If you're planning any visits before the end of this coming week, would you be able / willing to do a pick-up from Skeg railway station?
